Ukrnafta discovers new productive areas at the brownfields, drills high-yield wells, and plans new drilling based on 3D seismic data.
3D seismic surveys are one of the key tools that help improve the efficiency of new drilling.
"In 2024-2025, we acquired 3D seismic on an area exceeding 1,210 km2, on nine fields and two areas. This is already about 20% of all special permits issued to the Company," said Bogdan Kukura, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "Ukrnafta." Such works allow to significantly better understand the geological structure and, accordingly, plan new drilling more accurately."
Due to the data obtained, the Company can identify sweet spots, reduce geological risks, and work where drilling was previously considered too complicated or non-feasible.
This is especially critical for the brownfields. Even at the fields produced for decades, modern geophysics helps to discover new deposits and clarify the resource potential.
One such example is a field where, after 3D seismic acquisition, the prospects of a new area were predicted. The well drilled there confirmed the forecast for reservoir productivity.
The initial production rate was 132 tons of oil per day.
The results obtained became the basis for a further drilling program. Five more new wells have already been designed at this field. Their location, depth, and trajectory have been adjusted.
Importantly, the results of seismic exploration start working immediately, increasing the drilling probability of success. Already at the design stage, they allow adjusting the future wells point,
selecting the best trajectories for productive horizons' recovery and increasing the probability of success.
