UKRNAFTA Conducted 3D Seismic Surveys in the Mountains Using a Wireless System

UKRNAFTA completed the field phase of the first 3D seismic surveys using a wireless recording system in mountainous conditions in Western Ukraine.

“In the world practice of field onshore seismic surveys, work in mountainous areas is considered to be the most difficult: the height difference, complex geological structure of the fields”, said Sergii Koretskyi, CEO at UKRNAFTA. - “At the same time, the most important task is to obtain high density and high resolution seismic data”.

The field phase of the work was carried out over an area of 77 square kilometers, at altitudes ranging from 350 to 600 meters. It was carried out by the winner of the bidding on the Prozorro public platform, Georozvidka LLC.

The total maximum number of wireless autonomous modules used in the field research was almost 20,000, with simultaneous data recording on 18,500 of them.

The high density of receivers — 257 units per square kilometer — made it possible to confidently trace reflections from steeply pitching seismic boundaries.

The next step is to interpret the data and build a digital geological model.

The high reliability of the geological models will help minimize the risks of exploration drilling and, as a result, allow for more efficient drilling of new wells.
