The key focus of Ukrnafta’s work amid the war is the stability of the country’s energy system and the physical protection of production facilities. Bogdan Kukura, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Ukrnafta”, spoke about changes in the company’s operating model on the sidelines of the Newfolk Oil&Gas Conference.

“Today, we are talking not only about production, but more broadly about the ability to ensure the stability of the country’s energy system amid constant attacks on infrastructure,” Bogdan Kukura said. “A critically important focus today is the physical protection of production facilities. We are already implementing a systematic approach: moving critical infrastructure underground and building protected control rooms, tanks, pumping stations and utilities. New facilities are being designed from the outset with wartime risks in mind.”

Ukrnafta is now Ukraine’s largest oil company and one of the key elements of the country’s energy security. The company provides a full operating cycle: from geological exploration and drilling to production, treatment, refining and management of the largest UKRNAFTA gas station network.

Despite the war, the company continues to grow. Since 2022, Ukrnafta has demonstrated positive production dynamics and has been systematically investing in technology, drilling, equipment modernisation and infrastructure protection. In 2025, the company generated almost UAH 100 billion in net revenue, paid UAH 28.8 billion in taxes and UAH 5 billion in dividends to the state.

At the same time, the company continues to develop its production and service functions. In 2025, the company drilled a record 25 wells. In 2026, it plans to build 19 new facilities and carry out 31 hydraulic fracturing operations. It also plans to scale up 3D seismic surveys: in just two years, more than 1,210 km² of modern surveys have been completed, including Ukraine’s first wireless seismic survey.

A major emphasis is being placed on technology and operational efficiency. Ukrnafta is already operating 223 electric submersible pump units from Baker Hughes, Oil Dynamics and Alkhorayef. The comprehensive renewal of equipment, pipes, cable systems and chemical protection has made it possible to significantly reduce the number of repairs and increase the operating interval between well workovers.

The digitalisation of production processes is also continuing: remote well monitoring, automation of data collection, digital twins of fields, implementation of API standards and new materials for pipelines.
