Ukrnafta has acquired and commissioned modern equipment for well and reservoir fluid studies. This will improve the accuracy of geological and technical decisions and shorten data acquisition times.
“Developing in-house research capability is a strategic component of an oil and gas company’s operations,” said Bogdan Kukura, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Ukrnafta”. “Previously, some of these studies were carried out by external contractors, which limited the speed of analysis. Today, the company has its own analytical base, has improved the quality of field development planning and has shortened technical decision-making times. At the same time, it is building the capability to provide research services to other subsoil users as a separate line of business.”
In particular, the company has obtained its own PVT unit (Pressure-Volume-Temperature) — laboratory equipment used to study the physical properties of reservoir fluids, including oil, gas and condensate, under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. This makes it possible to analyse hydrocarbon properties directly under reservoir conditions.
The company has also procured and is using:
• downhole pressure gauges to measure pressure at the bottomhole and along the wellbore
• echo sounder dynamometers to determine fluid level, generate dynamometer cards and analyse the performance of downhole equipment
• mini-PLT tools — compact logging instruments (for gamma ray, pressure and temperature measurements)
• samplers for sealed downhole sampling of water, oil, gas or gas-oil mixtures at a specified depth.
