The Ukrnafta team visited ORLEN’s headquarters in Warsaw to learn from the practical experience of one of Central Europe’s largest energy companies in sustainable development, decarbonisation and the energy transition.
The visit took place as part of the development of Ukrnafta’s Corporate Climate and Sustainability Action Plan, supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s technical cooperation project under the Corporate Climate Governance Facility (CCGF).
During the visit, representatives of Ukrnafta, Naftogaz Group, ORLEN, EY and the EBRD discussed practical mechanisms for integrating ESG principles into the operations of energy companies, implementing European reporting standards, building a climate risk management system, delivering energy transition projects and identifying new business opportunities in the field of energy transformation.
The participants paid particular attention to corporate governance, decarbonisation of production processes, access to financing, supply chain management and preparations for European regulatory requirements.
“Energy companies today are changing much faster than ever before. For Ukrnafta, it is important not only to implement individual ESG initiatives, but to build a modern management system that takes sustainability into account at every level — from investment decisions to operating activities. Despite the challenges of wartime, we are integrating the best international practices into the company’s day-to-day work and laying the foundations for attracting the financing needed to restore and develop energy infrastructure. ORLEN’s experience shows how these principles can work in practice and create additional value for the business,” said Maris Kuniskis, Member of Ukrnafta’s Management Board responsible for ESG and power generation.
Ukrnafta continues to implement best international practices in corporate governance and sustainable development, consistently preparing the company for future investment projects and deeper cooperation with international partners.
