Kateryna Shiyan on living in the country, working as an assistant, and altering her career path

Kateryna Shiyan was raised in the Trostyanetsky district of the Vinnytsia region. She attended school here until Year 9, after which she and her parents relocated to Kyiv. She attended college in the capital. She decided to major in tourism. She then pursued her education at the National Transport University, where she earned a bachelor's in tourism and a master's in human resource management. Simultaneously, the girl started working as a cashier and administrator and ventured into the real estate and tourism industries.

Kateryna discovered a position at UKRNAFTA in 2025.  She was searching for a setting where she could grow after working in real estate for several years. Her idea was straightforward: begin with a tiny role, immerse in the system, learn internal procedures, and progressively advance inside a large company. As a result, she entered HR management and took on the role of assistant manager.

This was an unexpected but quite a logical turn for Kateryna. Despite having a master's degree in HR management, she had no intention of working in this industry. Now that she was inside UKRNAFTA, she realised she wanted to grow here. The areas of remuneration and training were particularly intriguing.

She has a variety of workdays. Signing orders and service notes in ERP, dealing with paperwork for the manager's subordinates, monitoring the calendar, rescheduling meetings, organising the manager's time, and compiling data and reports are some of Kateryna's primary responsibilities.

Outside of the office, Kateryna recovers because she lives in the country, has the chance to go to the garden and gather fruits and vegetables she grows, and restore basic items. She enjoys being able to go out into the garden, harvest what has already grown, stay on the ground, and refocus after a hectic day. In the past, sports and gym strength training received a lot of focus. She rides road bikes with her boyfriend during the warm season. They prefer to start around five in the morning when there are hardly any cars on the roads. Kuzya the dog and Dykun the cat are waiting at home.
