For an energy company, resilience has a specific unit of measurement: the time it takes to return a facility to operation after an attack.   

For the fifth year running, the Ukrnafta team has been gaining this experience under real-world conditions — amid ongoing attacks and the constant need to maintain production and fuel supplies. 

How to systematise the experience Ukraine has accumulated and turn it into practical solutions was discussed during the presentation of the immersive exhibition “35 Years of Resilience Experience”, prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Policy together with the Centre for Ukrainian Resilience Experience (CURE), with the participation of Minister Denys Uliutin, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko and representatives of the diplomatic corps. 

For the energy sector, this work begins with analysing every attack and every recovery effort. For Ukrnafta, the scale of this challenge is very tangible.

We begin recovery work as soon as the security situation allows. We assess the damage, replace destroyed equipment, restore power supplies and bring facilities back into operation. 

The next task is to reduce the vulnerability of the infrastructure. To achieve this, we are strengthening physical protection, providing autonomous power supplies and building up reserves of critical equipment.

International support is important in this work. Equipment, funding and expertise from our partners help not only to restore damaged assets, but also to improve the autonomy and protection of our facilities.

The value of CURE lies in systematising cases like these. The experience of individual teams needs to be analysed and turned into recovery procedures, models for autonomous operation and solutions that can be applied by other companies and institutions.
