Ukrnafta pilots system for remote monitoring of wells

PJSC Ukrnafta has implemented a pilot system for remote monitoring of the operating parameters of the electric submersible pumps (ESP) at 13 wells of the Gnidyntsi field operated by Chernihiv oil & gas production division of the company. Ukrnafta’s in-house specialists designed and programmed the connectivity between the downhole ESP sensors and corporate network to not only monitor, but also control the operating parameters of these ESPs in real time. The system will soon be extended to the wells operated by Dolyna oil & gas production division.

According to Mavriky Kalugin, Member of the Executive Board and Executive Vice President for Upstream at Ukrnafta, this system will help cut operating expenses, decrease the non-productive downtime, speed-up reaction time, and as a result decrease production losses. ‘This real-time telemetry data will help us see potential problems and intervene even before the well breaks down. The system was implemented by Ukrnafta specialist and with minimal investments’, added Mavriky Kalugin.

Additionally, the company is planning to implement a 10-well pilot of automated monitoring of sucker rod pumps (SRP).  This pilot is a part of the automation program for roughly 150 SRP wells in Ukrnafta’s Eastern portfolio.  Assuming a success, the company will likely expand to cover most of the SRPs operated by the company in remote areas.
