Since 2003, Halyna Lompas has been employed as a field geologist after beginning her career as a well survey operator. These days, she monitors production, well operational parameters, and assists junior coworkers in getting established in the field. 

Her journey into the oil sector, her career as a geologist, and her passion for the forest and tranquil outdoor leisure are all part of her story. 

On choosing a career 

I have been involved in the petroleum industry since I was a little child. My parents worked in Bytkiv, where I was born. My mother worked as a boiler house operator, while my father was an oil-field driver. I therefore entered in the Drohobych Oil Technical College to study the oil and gas fields geology and exploration when it came time to make a career decision. 

First job and a path to becoming a geologist 

I began working as a well survey operator after graduating from technical college. We measured the produced oil volumes and recorded the rates. After a year and a half, I was already filling in for a female geologist while she was on maternity leave, and starting in 2003, I took on that role permanently. 

On working at the field 

As a field geologist, I am involved in the oil and gas production. Well operating parameters, production accounting, monitoring oil and gas recovery rates, and calculating losses are among my duties. In order to be present for measurements and confirm accurate data, I also go on field trips. 

On the purpose of her work 

Our data indicates the volumes of oil, gas, and condensate produced over a specific period as well as the degree, to which the Company meets its production targets. For this reason, precision, documents, and continuous monitoring are crucial in this role. 

On experience and younger colleagues 

Young specialists join us, gain knowledge, and fill in for colleagues. I can provide some guidance based on my personal experience, and they frequently ask questions. However, even after years of employment, there’s always something new coming up in the job. 

On life outside work 

I adore nature. Picking mushrooms in the woods is one of my hobbies. Even in the winter, we frequently take walks because we live close to the mountains.
